Cecil Street Apartments
Modern Twist on a 19th Century Monolithic Commercial Building
South Melbourne, Victoria
AMG Architects created this strikingly modern twist on a 19th Century monolithic commercial building in South Melbourne.
The existing rendered stone façade was carefully renovated to its former splendour and conceals the first open-plan apartment with its winding staircases and private deck.
AMG Architects has made intelligent use of light and shadow in both apartments to dramatically enhance the materials chosen.
The juxtaposition of the existing façade and modern extension is striking. The architects worked diligently to ensure the impact was not lost from the street, designing a beautifully crafted series of wood-panelling that enhances yet softens this classic example of inner-city living at its best.
“The team at AMG Architects, are committed to providing a comprehensive architectural solution, which incorporates a thorough understanding of the building industry, an attention to detail and excellent customer service. Their designs are cutting-edge; unique, practical, clean, simple, modern and innovative. Consummate professionals, in every way.” – Pristine Equity Pty. Ltd.: M. A. Kinnon (Director).
