McDonald Residence

Utilising Light and Shadow to Highlight Shapes, Forms, Elements and Materials

Melbourne, Victoria

The McDonald Residence is located on a narrow, sloping block within walking distance to Pt. Lonsdale beachfront. AMG Architects was commissioned to create a sophisticated and harmonious addition to the streetscape.

Each element of this building, varying in shape, proportion and choice of material, has been carefully designed as part of a single architectural composition that also complements the neighbouring buildings.

The Melbourne and Geelong-based architects cleverly utilised light and shadow to highlight shapes, forms, elements and materials. Living areas overflow to create the sensation of space and opulence.

The McDonald residence exemplifies an effective and modern solution to a challenging architectural brief.

“The architects helped develop our ideas in ways we had never imagined and created a completely unique design, which exceeded our initial expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed working with them on our new home.” – David McDonald 2002 (Client).
